MSRM WiFi Extender Reset

Reset Guide For MSRM Extender

With any technology there is a chance it will have a bug or stop working at some point. This does not mean it is broken, rather something miniscule could have happened that temporarily disabled the technology. Regardless of the potential reasons behind why your Msrm wifi extender decided to quit working (probably when you were doing something important!) we will look at what to do about it. Whether or not you can determine what was the cause then we can take steps to mitigate that in the future via a hard reset. If you want then you can just skip to the last few paragraphs to see how to reset your Msrm wifi extender.

MSRM WiFi Range Extender Overview

The Msrm wifi extender comes with two antennas and support for the 2.4GHz frequency. It is a standard range extender with an ethernet port should you choose to go that route as well as a standard plug and play model. Wifi range extenders are not all that complicated, and many work very similar. As always you can expect to extend the range of your wifi but not increase the signal strenth. Only the strength of a dead zone to your isp + routers limits or below.

Why Did My WiFi Extender Stop Working In The First Place?

There could be a number of reasons your wifi extender stopped working. It might not be plugged in all the way thus resulting in a failed connection. If you have children or pets running around then this probably happens more often than not. The firmware could be corrupted and needs an update, although this is not very likely. Another unlikely issues but still possible is a computer virus you got that is reeking havoc on your network. Not to worry! Nothing a good ol fashioned tech genius reset can’t fix.

Option 1: Reset Button

If it is not already, plug your MSRM wifi extender into an outlet.

Wait for the LED light to turn solid.

You should have a reset or WPS button on the rear or side of your device. Once you locate it you will need a pen or paperclip.

Use the aforementioned pen or paperclip to press and hold the reset button until the light starts blinking. If it does not start blinking hold until it does. One quick push wont do it!

The light should be blinking red which indicates that it is resetting.

Your wifi extender should now have restarted to its factory default settings. You will need to go through the initial setup steps again as you did when you first got your range extender.

Option 2: Web Browser Reset

For this method you will need your phone or computer/laptop. Anything with an internet connection that is connected to your range extenders network.

In your url bar you will need to navigate to either http://ap.setup or http://192.168.1.1. If they are not showing up then double check to make sure your extender is plugged in and on.

Enter your admin credentials in the webpage when prompted.

Find the system drop-down and navigate to the factory defaults submenu.

Clicking the factory defaults button will do the same factory reset as the button in method one.

Thats pretty much all there is to it! The first method is always the simplest but sometimes with age those tiny buttons stick or just stop working as intended. Luckily you can always use the browser method as a backup. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
